A morning at Drama Club

Drama Club at Olives!!

Drama club is run by Sara Mayer (The GVI Regional Coordinator for Kenya) at Olives Rehabilitation Centre.

Gemma, Jess, Mary, Susie Ben and I went along to join the excitement. It was fantastic to see some drama in action!!

Volunteers Gemma and Mary getting tips on their acting skills.

The club kicked off with essential fun warmer games, to get our voices and bodies ready for some acting action.

“Sound ball”, “Zip, zap, zop” and the “Machine” were just some of the interesting energising games!! It was a great way to get everyone involved and build on teamwork skills which are always essential in acting. Soon we were ready to get started………

The aim of the drama session was to interpret a story being as creative and as imaginative as possible. We were put into groups and each given a story. The children could easily retell the story finding out who the characters were and what actions and emotions took place throughout the story.

Volunteers Ben and Kirsty reading to the group.

It was fantastic to see all the children contributing to ideas and being involved and working as a team. What really caught my eye was even the less confident children were coming out of their shell and really giving it a good go and joining in enthusiastically. I wish I could stay longer to see Drama Club progress even further. Maybe I’ll be seeing the children at Olives on the big screen when they become famous actors!!

The children taking to the stage.

I look forward to hearing and reading about the ongoing developments in Drama Club.
