School of Rock!
Do you think that when Queen released their classic hit ‘Somebody to Love’ Freddie turned to Brian May with -
“Listen to this song, what a useful teaching resource we’ve created, perhaps we should get a deal with Heinnmann Books?!”
Almost certainly not!
However today that is exactly what the hit tune proved to be.

The Mission:
(should I choose to accept it…)
To teach Standard 2 the difference between somebody, anybody and nobody.
After demonstrating the meaning of the vocabulary with the aid of a chair at the front of the classroom I then brought out ‘the I-pod’ to chants of “Radio, radio!” The instructions for the activity were simple; the children were to raise their hands anytime they heard the word ‘somebody’. Chaos ensued, much fun but totally mad!
"Radio, radio!"
Four minutes and fifty-seven seconds later after a frantic waving of hands (in quick succession during the really wordy bits!) we established that the giants of rock utter the word ‘somebody’ no less than 37 times! Not to mention the odd ‘someone’ just to keep us on our toes!
Standard 2 grooving to Queen
During Reading later in the day I saw one of the kids writing down ‘anybody, somebody, nobody’ just for fun… which means that clearly SOMEBODY was listening and taking it all in!!!
