First Aid at Precious Vision

We are two student nurses who have spent the last 4 weeks having the privilege of teaching standard 3 at Precious Vision School ran by the charismatic Madam Jane (Simons’ future wife!!). The kids have been amazing and a real pleasure to work with, even when they are acting up. Going into our final week we can look back at the fond memories we have, especially Old Macdonald (E I E I O!!!).

Alongside the teaching we have also been acting as the schools first aiders which involves being the points of contact when children hurt themselves (mostly cuts and scrapes during playtime).

We also ran a first aid class for the older children on how to look after their injuries and help reduce the risk of infection. This involved teaching them how to clean wounds and then dress them. We also taught them some basic life support (CPR) and what to do if they find someone unconscious. The class was well received and the majority of the children definitely took something away from the class.

The children were really resilient to the injuries and were soon back outside playing after their injury had been cleaned and dressed. In fact, the majority of the time they had to be dragged into the staff room to get cleaned up. The children did not complain once that the injury hurt, which was quite humbling. This made the experience greatly enjoyable and we are definitely looking forward to coming back in a few years.
