Standard Three: Let Loose!
During the holiday programme the activities always seem to be geared towards the older students; they have been snorkelling, watched pantomimes and have even been to educational seminars.  This year, however GVI felt very passionate about the younger children getting their turn!

Volunteers and Standard 3
Last week saw Standard 3’s first ever beach trip along with GVI volunteers.  Initially most were very nervous as very few of them can swim, but with the volunteers’ help their confidence grew and within minutes they were splashing about and having a great time.

They really enjoyed playing with the rubber rings, armbands and floats (they had never seen these before) and some were even brave enough to try out the snorkels too!

The fun didn’t stop here though, today they had another trip; visiting Haller Park!  Both Standard 3 and 4 came along and got to see crocodiles, hippos, antelope and snakes.
The favourite parts for most of the children, however was seeing the massive tortoises that wander freely around the park and feeding the giraffes. The volunteers distributed the food for the giraffes amongst the children and then showed them how it was done.

The children were apprehensive to start with, but soon everyone had plucked up the courage to hold their hand still whilst the giraffe ate the pellets.

After the Christmas holidays Standard 3 will be progressing to Standard 4 and as they get older the opportunites to go on more school trips will increase.  During both of their trips out so far Standard 3 have behaved impeccably and been a credit to their school.  Well done Standard 3!
A Very Happy Standard 3!!!
