June 7th was a very special day for Precious: it has been one year since they had moved into their new premises and one year since the feeding scheme was set up. Madam Jane, Precious staff and GVI volunteers gathered together at break time and celebrated the date. A candle was lit and everyone clapped.

During that time we have seen so many changes at Precious, as it has gone from strength to strength:
Lunch and breakfast feeding scheme. Until these were set up the children would go the whole day without food. Now they receive two nutritious meals a day. Energy levels have risen dramatically and fewer children are absent due to illness.
Kindergarten eating porridge for breakfast An income generating project has been set up, the greenhouse. Vegetables are planted and cared for by Madam Jane and Erastus. Once harvested they are sold to the local community.

Text books in the classrooms. Instead of one to two text books per class, we are average one book between two children, sometimes one per child!

Contribution to the teachers wages. The teachers are often overlooked due to the welfare of the children but without the dedicated local teachers, the school would not be able to operate the way it does.

A new classroom. Standard 1 have moved from the veranda to the new classroom away from the noise of Kindergarten.

Doors on the classrooms. This not only keeps the children in the classroom but also keeps the noise out!

On behalf of everyone at Precious and the Mombasa staff team, we would like to say a huge thank you to all our past and current volunteers and donors for having made this past year such a successful one for Precious.
