Raising the Roof!!

Students wading through water to get to school.

Now that we are entering the rainy season in Mombasa, where it can rain for days at a time, you don’t walk to school you swim!!
Turning up at school dripping wet isn’t much fun for anyone.

The flooded playground outside Olives.

Unfortunately the roofs at Olives Rehabilitation Centre are rusty with large holes. This means whenever it rains chaos descends, lessons are disrupted, desks have to be moved and we all huddle in areas where we can escape the leaking roofs.

Volunteer Will, whose local church raised money for the new roof.

Fortunately money to replace the roofs has been raised and donated by Winchester Road Methodist Church, London, England.

Work is under way, the new roof is coming together!!

With work on the roofs scheduled to be completed on Saturday it looks like even a monsoon won’t interrupt the new school term and the lessons at Olives.

A local workman securing the iron sheets.

From all the children, staff at Olives and the project here in Mombasa we want to say a huge thank you to all those that kindly and generously donated to help this much needed restoration at Olives Rehabilitation Centre.

Olives School, the roof nearly complete!!
