End of year exams - a nerve wracking time for staff and GVI volunteers

Amanda:

How we all remember that time of year and for the children of Olives Rehabilitation Centre it is that time of year. For the past two days, all classes have been taking their End of Term III exams in English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, C.R.E. & Kiswahili. With the exception of Kindergarden, all papers had 50 questions.

Lou:

For the majority of us, this is our first time adjudicating and marking papers. Whilst it has been amusing at times to read some of the questions – and answers – it does remind us why we are here: to offer these children a chance at an education and ultimately a future that they would otherwise not have had.

Becca:

For the children these results will determine whether or not they move on or repeat the year. And for some, it could mean a new beginning at a new school once they finish standard 5. What does the future hold for these children? This is a question a lot of the volunteers have been asking themselves today.
