Farewell Sophie J

Farewell Sophie J

This week long term GVI volunteer Sophie Jenkins said her farewells to the Bombolulu Adult Education Group.  Sophie has been a key member within the group over the past 9 months, and has been paramount in the ongoing success of the group.  Not only does Sophie attend the twice weekly sessions, but also gives up her Saturdays to provide extra tuition to some of the weaker members of the group.

Sophie has made an extra effort to assimilate within the local community, creating a deep connection with the individuals in and around the Bombolulu and is well liked by many.  She is a very popular individual within the group.  To thank her for her constant effort, hard work and dedication over the duration of her stay, the group members raised enough funds between them to throw a leaving party for Sophie.  Each member made a heartfelt speech to thank Sophie for all her assistance with their progression, followed by a feast of local foods such as mandazis (a local type of doughnut) viyazis (fried battered potatoes) and an enormous cake.

Following the party, group members who had successfully completed their Microsoft Word computer tests were awarded with their certificates of commendation.

Thank you Sophie for all your efforts and commitment over the past 9 months, you have been an outstanding volunteer and teacher and will be greatly missed within the project, and most certainly within the Adult Education Group.
