Butterfly Farm Trip
During the school holidays in August a lot of the students go away to visit family , but
about 80 children still come to school ,which
runs a holiday programme consisting of lots of fun things to do. There were
several different day trips during the week but my favourite was the Butterfly
Farm Trip.
We
got to take 27 children from standards two, three and four. Plus a local
teacher . The matatu I was in had a pop
up roof so as we left the school the children stood up and did a “Queens wave” type exit.

When we arrived a guide showed us around
the butterfly farm, there were not a great amount of butterflies to see but
there was a big stream and it was full of fish , the children enjoyed watching
them swim around .
The highlight was the play park. Consisting
of swings and climbing frames. The children really enjoyed playing .The volunteers
took turns pushing them on swings helping them on and off the see saw and also
keeping them from wandering into the stream to catch fish!!!

After
a very exhausting few hours we made our way back to school for lunch. It was a
very enjoyable morning it was great to see the children have so much fun on
things that were a normal part of my childhood but to them they a very special
treat which without GVI volunteers would not happen.
